Chris Dobranski
started with a simple concept to show the elegance of a dragonfly as a
larger than life sculpture and to demonstrate his ability as an artist
and carver using his own interpretation of Native and non-native
traditions. His idea evolved into a unique collaborative opportunity
between talented artists and designers working in different mediums,
unrelated to each other. The project “Metamorphosis” represents the
process of their collaboration and journey in developing and fulfilling
the vision of an anatomically correct dragonfly sculpture– body carved
from cedar by Dobranski, glass eyes blown by
David New Small, iridescent stained glass wings by
Roger
Bryant, steel frame by
Warren
Walker and metal engineering for legs and joints by
Danny
Jay. The exhibit will also include select works by the five
creators and guest artists who taught and influenced Dobranski’s work
and career.
